Keeping employees happy is a struggle for employers every single day. It brings a challenge to businesses looking for creative ways to keep people happy and staying around longer to work. The key to keeping employees happy may be in some creative and simple incentives.

One way to keep employees happy is by allowing them to have a flexible work schedule. Family time for special functions or just being home at the dinner table together can mean a lot to an employee. Allowing employees time off when needed, working on flexed time schedules, and being creative with their work time will make them want to give something back to the company.

Another simple way of keeping employees happy is the simple gift of coffee and teas. It’s been a proven fact that those who are given unlimited benefits of free coffee and tea are much more effective and happy employees.

Work function and events that involve family members are fun ways to allow personal and business to mix and as well gives the employee a free way to entertain the family. These small rewards are very appreciated by employees.

Incentives that allow employees to pay less money into insurance programs can be a great benefit to an employee and keep them around longer. A 401K program where the employer matches up to a certain percent of what you put in is a great benefit to an employee. Health clubs and gym memberships being waived or paid by an employer can be another great incentive to keep an employee happy.

There are many ways that people can start a business. The business world today is much different than the business world 100 years ago. It is now possible to communicate with people on the other side of the world with telephones and the internet. This practice may seem overwhelming to someone just starting out in business or to someone is wishing to expand their business. Here are a few ways that you can make sure that your company expands with the ever changing business market.

The first thing you need to do when looking to start a business or expand your business, is to build a website. Your website is what will attract customers locally and globally. You can build your website yourself, or you can hire someone who is experienced in building websites. The next thing you need to do is tell people about your company. This can be done by promoting your site in article directories and by telling people you know to visit your site. When people know that your site exist and you are getting a significant amount of traffic, your site and the products you are promoting will be become popular. It is important to update your content regularly so that your website will have return visitors.

There are many steps to opening a business. Establishing a location, securing a name, and finding the right employees are a few of the vital steps to running a successful business. The new owner is working hard to get the company off the ground and get everything done, but sometimes things get forgotten. The most overlooked basics in starting a business are creating a business plan and purchasing the right business insurance. The business plan maps out the direction the owner wants the company to take. It provides a general description of the company and defines the products and services the company will offer. Strategic marketing tactics are spelled out, daily operational duties and responsibilities are outlined, and financial statements and projections are included. Business plans can be overwhelming and can take a couple weeks or more to complete. Business plan templates,www.score.org/template_gallery.html can help make the procedure easier and produce an impressive plan.Business insurance is another commonly overlooked yet important step in starting a business. Insurance protects business owners from liability in the case of accident, injury or error. Learning about the different types of business insurance,www.sba.gov/content/types-business-insurance before the company opens its doors can save the owner unnecessary expense and grief.

Be genuine Don’t rub shoulders with people only because you want to use them for their client list or think they can help you out in some sort of monetary manner. Expand your horizons as a business man or woman on upfront grounds. If people get the sense they are being used, your acquaintance will ultimately do more harm than good.Follow your interests Don’t get involved in a group solely for practical business purposes. It likely won’t help much if you show up just for the sake of being seen and showing up. Active participation is the only way to form meaningful relationships both with groups and other likeminded individuals. The best way to inspire yourself towards diving in is to join groups that legitimately interest you.Don’t name drop You may know the head honcho here and an up and comer there, but name dropping just to establish yourself as someone important within a certain business community will only downgrade your reputation. Yes, feel free to pass on names of people you do know in a way that might help that person’s career, but do not casually mention names of executives just to heighten your own profile in the eye’s of others. These boastful efforts are often painfully transparent, even if you are well connected.Use your information If someone gives you a name or number to call, call it. That should go without explanation but all too often people are hesitant to accept help when the opportunity presents itself. They gave you the information for a reason, not so you could file it away in a pocket, contact list or drawer somewhere and never think of it again.

The business world is a constantly in motion. With modern advances in technology and the development of new products and services previous generations would have never dared to dream, the successful entrepreneur must adapt as well. Gone are the days when a good idea and a little elbow grease could single-handedly propel you to the top. While both are still key parts to the puzzle, the following qualities are also vital when trying to make it as an entrepreneur today:

Creativity The current business market has been flooded with ideas, and a lot of good ones, as a result of the ease with which new technology has allowed every average Joe to publish, or make accessible to the general public in some capacity, his or her own brilliance (or sometimes lack thereof). Creativity is more important than ever so that your idea can break through the clutter by putting a new and innovative spin on it. It is also essential in further developing your product to coincide with new, relevant advancements.

Organization The not so distant meltdown of our financial sector has reemphasized the importance of organization and accurate bookkeeping. This is not only important for the accountants of the world; everyone from the top down needs to keep detailed records so that you know exactly where you and your company stand at all points in time. Organization will also help you stay on top of the ball and keep you both on time for meetings and sending timely responses to queries. As the world gets smaller, individual schedules seem to cram more and more to-do’s into a limited number of hours.

Selflessness In order for your business to maximize its potential or even get it off the ground, the man or woman at the helm is going to have to put their entrepreneurial goals ahead of some of their own personal life goals. This will also mean working a lot longer than your old 9-5 job and without the secured income and benefits. For those willing to put family and friends on the backburner and focus solely on the task at hand, despite the increasingly chaotic and distracting time in which we live, even lofty business goals are still in reach.

Just because you’ve gotten your start-up company off the ground and kept your doors open for a year now, doesn’t mean all the hard work is done. Even if you’re in the black and constantly turning a profit, there are still practical steps and strategies you can employ to further optimize the performance of your employees, yourself and your business as a whole.

Celebrate your victories The up and down nature of the economy can be a rollercoaster ride for any business owner, but when you do finally achieve stable, consistent growth and hit one of the milestones you’ve been working towards, take the time to celebrate it. This doesn’t mean puff a Cuban cigar in the privacy of your corner office; celebrate it with all the hard working people who made it possible. Give out public recognition and rewards for those who have helped achieve your sustained success so that to share the sense of accomplishment and will continue to work hard in promoting your company’s growth.

Let employees think for themselves Give the people who work with you the freedom to implement their own ideas and actions within your business model. If they take ownership of their own ideas they will be more deeply invested in driving those ideas to flourish. This will also allow employees to take pride in their own work and hold themselves more personally accountable for the success of their own work and the company at large.

Take Smart Risks Sometimes business owners work so hard to see initial results that once they actually have something worth losing they are too terrified to make any tough decisions. Bold entrepreneurial spirit is what got you where you are in the first place; don’t let success change the way you think. This is not an endorsement to fly out to Vegas for the weekend and bet the employee pension fund on black, but when a venture comes along that has the potential to change the face of your company in a good way, don’t be afraid to roll the dice.

Every successful small company and major corporation started with one feature in common: a great idea. Without a compelling and inspiring central idea, your company is doomed to a limited lifespan, no matter how much capital you can crank into it. This basic idea is generally very simple in and of itself, addressing a specific need in the local or global community and answering it with a plausible, implementable solution. It is not enough, however, to simply have a great idea. After all, plenty of people have million dollar ideas every day but are unable to get their concept off the ground. In order to achieve success, this idea must be clearly communicated, so that the company itself stands for exactly what it claims to offer. Especially at the onset of a new business venture, it is essential for employees, clients and business owners alike to have a firm grasp what the business is all about, so that its product or service is not misrepresented, intentionally or unintentionally. When the big idea either cannot withstand the test of time or is not clearly communicated through all channels, the company is plagued by unreasonable expectations across an evolving business landscape. To steal from an old proverb, your business should not be a house made of sand, in other words, a loosely integrated stream of thoughts, products and theories. Instead, make sure the concept is clearly thought out from a variety of angles and all ideas that stem from the base concept are clearly integrated to promote the same identity. If your business rests on a firm foundation, in the form of a concrete idea, from there you can continue to build upwards, expanding in a way that is consistent with the company’s established codes and values. This allows for on-strategy innovation while limiting the unexpected surprises that spring up all too often when the central concept is not clearly communicated.

As the famous saying implies, it can be lonely at the top. Just because you are at the head of the chain of command doesn’t mean you should always have to come off as so. While it is important to be the boss, it can be equally important to share a common bond with your employees and develop connections beyond the simple dynamics that constitute most employee-employer relationships. This way the entire company knows that everyone, from the top down, is working hard towards the same goal. Here are some helpful recommendations to open your communication channels.

Be accessible TV and movies show the big boss man lording over his workers like a puppet master from the high peaks of the top floor. Don’t hide from your employees in rarely accessible areas of your office building or company campus, with a lineup of secretaries standing guard on every corner. This isn’t to say that every employee should be able to meet with you in person over every little hiccup, but when the people who work with you have major concerns, hear them out.

Use technology, but not to a fault Sure, advancements in communication have helped to cut cost and streamline efficiency, but the cohesiveness forged through personal contact and relationships can never be replaced. When you hold meetings, attend them in the flesh, even if everyone could get the message just as well through a computer screen and/or microphone. To take a hands-on approach, you might actually have to take your hands off the keyboard from time to time.

Don’t overlook the day-to-day You probably shouldn’t be the one restocking the paper trays every morning at 6 a.m., but when it comes to your company’s daily operation, make sure you are at least aware of even the most menial tasks. It can be extremely difficult to effectively gauge employee performance, make personnel changes or even reward a job well done if you don’t witness the work yourself. You may never reach a point where it’s completely hands off the steering wheel, but if you take pride in your business, you shouldn’t want to.

You may be an astute and savvy businessman, but when it comes to starting and growing a new business, it is not something you can do completely on your own. At some point in the early stages of your company’s development you are going to have to start surrounding yourself with the right kind of people to help your goals come to fruition. Most business owners and founders have been employees themselves at some point or another, but this does not necessarily mean they know what to look for when they’re on the other side of the interview table. Here are a few qualities most crucial in early stages of employee hiring:

Trustworthy Sometimes in the early stages it is best to go into battle with someone you already know you can trust. Friends and old business associates who are good for their word should be the first people you turn to. The umbrella of trustworthiness also includes confidentiality and reliability. You need someone you know you can count on to put in extra work and not leak the new ideas and innovations that will ultimately make your business successful.

Manageable A new business is no place for multiple egos. In moving forward, you will want to make sure that the entire company is on the same page, including yourself, so that you can present a united front when promoting your company. There will also be a lot of paper work, cold calling and other undesirable tasks at the onset, which is made increasingly difficult with employees who do not take direction or do what they’re told.

Diverse in Thinking Just because a new business isn’t a place for multiple egos doesn’t mean it can’t be a melting pot of ideas. One mistake a lot of employers make is hiring only likeminded people. This doesn’t necessarily promote a united front, instead often leaning towards a one-dimensional platform. Hiring people who think differently than yourself will help to solve problems that arise in ways you may never have considered and enable your business to be more well-rounded as a whole.
